The conversion brands we carry

A “hauler” is a factory cab-and-chassis — Freightliner M2, Ford F-450/F-550, GM 3500 — finished by a specialist upfitter with a custom bed, an upgraded interior, and a suspension built to tow. Whether you’re moving horses to Aiken or a boat to the coast, the right build comes down to the load. Here’s who we stock and what sets each apart.

Laredo Conversions

Practical, payload-focused builds with a genuinely functional hauler bed and a comfortable cab, without the six-figure premium of the fully custom shops. We’re also the place to spec a new Laredo to your exact build.

SportChassis

The Freightliner-recognized name. OEM-completion M2 builds with composite hauler beds, factory-matched interiors, and the big-block torque the offshore crowd wants.

Western Hauler

The old-school luxury benchmark: high-gloss walnut consoles, exotic leathers, western stitching, and heavy steel hauler beds.

Schwalbe

Famous for the “Schwalbe Stretch,” a lengthened cab that turns the truck into a true four-door cabin with limo-like rear legroom and air-ride seating throughout.

Luxe Trucks

All-aluminum hauler beds and Trailer Saver hitches across Ford, Freightliner, and Dodge chassis; the sister brand to Luxe Fifth Wheels.

Summit Hauler

Engineered around ride comfort, with sound-deadened soft-touch cabins and a bed design that helps the truck settle under load and cut driver fatigue.

2L Customs

Show-truck attitude: custom paint, blacked-out trim, and personalized interiors that bridge a work truck and a statement piece.

Bolt Custom

Integrated-sleeper, open-concept cabins built in aluminum with vibration-proof fasteners for a light, rattle-free ride.

Buying from an out-of-state dealer: South Carolina tax and titling

This is where South Carolina stands apart. Instead of a sales tax, the state charges a one-time Infrastructure Maintenance Fee (IMF) when you first title the truck — 5% of the price, but capped at $500. That cap is the whole story: on a hauler worth $100,000 or more, you pay $500 in IMF where most states would charge many thousands in sales tax. (If you’re relocating to South Carolina with a truck already registered in another state, it’s a flat $250 instead.)

One-time IMF

Registration Window

safety or emissions inspections

A few things to keep in mind. You’ll register within 45 days. South Carolina eliminated mandatory vehicle inspections in 1995, so there’s no safety or emissions test to clear anywhere in the state. And while the IMF is a bargain, South Carolina does assess an annual county property tax on vehicles, paid before each registration — so factor that into the running cost. This is general guidance, not tax advice — confirm current figures with the SCDMV before you buy.

Talk to Someone Who Knows Haulers

Not salespeople — specialists. They’ve spent years in the field and know exactly what South Carolina buyers need from a Hauler.

Frequently asked questions

How much is tax on a hauler truck in South Carolina?

South Carolina charges an Infrastructure Maintenance Fee (IMF) instead of sales tax — 5% of the price, capped at $500 — when you first title the truck. On an expensive hauler that cap can save five figures versus most states. Note that South Carolina also assesses an annual county property tax on vehicles. Confirm current figures with the SCDMV.

Do you need a special license to drive a hauler in South Carolina?

For personal use you don’t need a CDL, but South Carolina requires an upgraded non-commercial license over 26,000 lbs — Class E for a single vehicle or Class F for the heaviest combinations. Most pickup-based haulers stay on a standard license. Confirm your setup with the South Carolina DMV.

Do I need an inspection to register a hauler in South Carolina?

No. South Carolina eliminated mandatory vehicle inspections in 1995, so there’s no safety or emissions test required to register your hauler anywhere in the state.

Can I buy a hauler if I live in South Carolina but you’re in Indiana?

Yes. We’re an appointment-only dealer in Bloomington, Indiana, and deliver throughout South Carolina by enclosed transport. You choose the truck, we recondition it and confirm a timeline, and it arrives at the address you choose — Charleston, Aiken, Greenville, or anywhere statewide.

Are your hauler trucks new or used?

Most of our inventory is hand-picked, reconditioned used trucks — we specialize in low-mileage, well-kept conversions. We also build new Laredo trucks to order for buyers who want to spec a truck from scratch.

What’s the best hauler for towing horses to Aiken?

For a standard two- or three-horse setup, a mid-tier Ford F-450/F-550 or dually handles it comfortably and keeps you on a standard license. For a large living-quarters gooseneck, a Freightliner M2-112 build gives you the capacity and the steadiest tow — just plan for the upgraded non-commercial license the weight may require.
