Hauler Trucks for Sale in California

The conversion brands we carry

A “hauler” is a factory cab-and-chassis — Freightliner M2, Ford F-450/F-550, GM 3500 — finished by a specialist upfitter with a custom bed, an upgraded interior, and a suspension built to tow. Because California favors newer-engine and lighter trucks (more on that below), we’ll point California buyers toward the builds that register cleanly here. Here’s who we stock and what sets each apart.

Laredo Conversions

Practical, payload-focused builds with a genuinely functional hauler bed and a comfortable cab, without the six-figure premium of the fully custom shops. We’re also the place to spec a new Laredo to your exact build.

Western Hauler

The old-school luxury benchmark: high-gloss walnut consoles, exotic leathers, western stitching, and heavy steel hauler beds.

SportChassis

The Freightliner-recognized name. OEM-completion M2 builds with composite hauler beds, factory-matched interiors, and the big-block torque the offshore crowd wants.

Schwalbe

Famous for the “Schwalbe Stretch,” a lengthened cab that turns the truck into a true four-door cabin with limo-like rear legroom and air-ride seating throughout.

Bolt Custom

Integrated-sleeper, open-concept cabins built in aluminum with vibration-proof fasteners for a light, rattle-free ride.

Summit Hauler

Engineered around ride comfort, with sound-deadened soft-touch cabins and a bed design that helps the truck settle under load and cut driver fatigue.

Luxe Trucks

All-aluminum hauler beds and Trailer Saver hitches across Ford, Freightliner, and Dodge chassis; the sister brand to Luxe Fifth Wheels.

2L Customs

Show-truck attitude: custom paint, blacked-out trim, and personalized interiors that bridge a work truck and a statement piece.

Buying from an out-of-state dealer: California tax and titling

California use tax is due on a vehicle bought out of state and brought in within 12 months of purchase. The rate is your local registration-address rate — a 7.25% state base plus district taxes, so most buyers land between 7.75% and 10.75%. You do get credit for sales or use tax legally paid in another state.

Frequently asked questions

Can I register an out-of-state diesel hauler in California?

Often yes, but it depends on the truck. California’s DMV won’t register a vehicle that doesn’t meet state emission rules, and diesels over 14,000 lbs fall under CARB’s Clean Truck Check, with a 2010-or-newer engine generally required above 26,000 lbs. Newer-engine and lighter pickup-based haulers are the cleaner path. Confirm a specific truck’s status with CARB before buying — we can help you find one that qualifies.

Do you need a special license to drive a hauler in California?

For personal use you don’t need a CDL, but California requires a non-commercial Class B for a vehicle or motorhome over 26,000 lbs or over 40 feet, and a non-commercial Class A for towing a trailer over 10,000 lbs. Pickup-based haulers usually keep you on a standard Class C license. Confirm your setup with the California DMV.

How much is California tax on a truck bought out of state?

California charges use tax when you bring an out-of-state purchase in within 12 months. The rate is your local registration-address rate — a 7.25% state base plus district taxes, typically 7.75% to 10.75% — with credit for sales or use tax paid in another state. Confirm current figures with the CDTFA.

What brands of hauler trucks do you sell?

We carry used conversions from the major shops — Laredo, SportChassis, Schwalbe, Western Hauler, Bolt Custom, Summit, Luxe, and 2L Customs — on Freightliner, Ford, GM, Peterbilt, and Kenworth chassis. We can also spec a brand-new Laredo, and we’ll help California buyers choose a build that registers cleanly here.

Are your hauler trucks new or used?

Most of our inventory is hand-picked, reconditioned used trucks — we specialize in low-mileage, well-kept conversions. We also build new Laredo trucks to order. For California, we’ll factor emissions compliance into the recommendation from the start.
